“Trim the hedges”… We’ll let this  ad explain the rest.  Enjoy!

Agency: JWT

City: New York

Advertiser: Wilkinson Sword

Brand Name: Quattro

  • Jow Fong
    WOW!!!!! take the hint girls
  • Kitamuffiner
Wow... Target Chick.... I think it's out of line to infer that a woman is a slut simply because she likes the commercial or wishes to "mow her lawn." I think the ad succeeds only for the fact that regardless if you liked it or not it makes you go "wow" and I'm sure if you caught it on TV you'd be watching hard the next time it aired just to make sure you saw/heard right the first time you watched it.
  • dgm59
WOW that was a great ad, the creatoras shouold be commended for their work.
  • ziggy
that was great I love it
  • classic that right people nobody likes a unkept yard......
  • michellemabelle88
Quattro is the best!! This video cracked me up especially the "tulips" part LOL
  • SP
This ad has never been run in England
  • gretch76063
    That's awesome!! I love it!
  • TM
I just love a well trimmed "lawn".
  • kanlisha
    I AM ACTUALLY A BUSHMAN!
  • Lisa
    Frickin' HILARIOUS!!!!!
  • razor_challenged
I do NOT view this as a positive or funny ad...because of the inherent messages: In Wilkinson Sword's corporate mind they think women will buy the WS razor blades if they present the following message: women have to do the chores, women look and act like idiotic Barbie-type bimbettes, AND who will happily do the outdoor twee trimming (yes, I meant t-w-e-e) - especially if they're bored or blue - oh yes, and what's with the PINK lawnmowers? And the razor in the tool cabinet? Like, do women over there in Britain have forests or lawns for leg hair? And did she shave the cat too? Will women get carried away and shave everything in sight.
p.s. I'm not from Britain or Europe, but honestly - there MUST be another way to say: come on, all you young women out there (cuz the ad is def. not aimed at anyone over 21), get with the program and MOW that "bush" and those legs!!!!!
There is a certain humorous element in this ad, however, the multiple messages immediately put a damper on it.

By the way? did the ad work?
  • mowedandstillhaveabrain
    stupid and cutsey-dull
  • alli
Now this is good! I'd love to see this run on N. American TV.
  • malrite
    Huh, then WOW!!!
  • auntteetee1977
That was funny!!! I will bet the people who need to "mow the lawn" won't get it!!!!
  • AdHater
    Subtle.
  • doc wise
    i will do the backyard!!
  • doobie
    gave me nausea
  • Love it! Such a change with other brands that are unable to treat this topic without either be clinical or turning into soft porn...
  • adrenadine
'uuuuuueeewwwwwww the shaved cat ruined the end.......
  • mtshawaii
Creative and crass. Brilliant and bold. Funny and offensive.
  • Monie
Time for spring cleaning. I have seen the soften version that is so unnoticeable. I like the sense of humor. This is a humorous approach to a not so talked about topic. I laughed and so did my man. Good job!!
  • Henry
wow, thtat' funny! refreshing! awesome combination!
  • Target Chick?
Really? I'm sorry, who was the target again? Oh, I think this will work well for a niche market of girls who like to be dirty, but I didn't really think the majority of women were sluts now. Maybe I'm wrong. I'd like to see how this would do at the Effies.
  • ken mount
Not great. The humor is sophomoric.
  • Chance
"Classless...Disgusting...Piece of XXXX...Pathetic.Cringeworthy.Juvenile...One of the stupidest commercials ever...?" Wow. We Earthlings sure do see things through different filters.
Personally, the adjectives I would use are: "Brilliant...Hilarious...Cute...Refreshing...Effective" But I guess that just makes me a classless, disgusting piece of XXX.
  • Azzz
    Awesome!
  • geri
Wrong message to the right target (women). Right message to the wrong target (men).
  • Craig Julius
One of the stupidest commercials EVER!!!!
  • Dave
I cant believe how puritanical some people still are. My god, it really frightens me that someone could actually think this fun, light-hearted ad is offensive.

These are probably the peiple who could do with this product the most and think that this ad is only talking to a small percentage of the population.

Get over it. Nearly every woman under the age of 50 "trims their lawn" and so do a large percentage of guys. I think of it as common courtesy

tulips on the mound..... thats Ad gold right there... as we speak this ad is being posted all over youtube and facebook. Instant, if short lived, viral. Great work JWT.
  • John Burnap
love it! fun, cute, made me smile, and watch it again. and will tell friends about it. I think they accomplished the goal of cutting through the clutter and making an impression
  • mike
Here we go, just found it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aav9_hskMxU&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailystab.com%2Fquattro-bikini-razor-commercial-says-mow-the-lawn%2F&feature=player_embedded

I was mistaken, no bushes being trimmed but def being downsized mysteriously as the women move past them!
  • Boom
    Deanna:
I did get the name of the product in the beautifully mowed lawn at the end... and yes, i would buy it at least to try it out, because I like their sense of humor.. caught my attention... Now, the only reason I would stick with them is if they are actually a good quality razor.
    But definitely different... Kudos!

    John:
Let me know if you find one!! I've got the pink rain boots to match them!
  • mike
Was watching tv last night (in the states) and saw a very much toned down version of this ad. Did anyone else see it? There was def some bush trimming happening but a MUCH more conservative approach.
  • John
Where can I buy the pink lawn mowers?
  • How many people, without going back to the ad, can name the brand of this product? I know it was a razor, but which brand? And, why would I buy this brand over another? As Mike imagined, 99% of men would love the ad, but only "women who can relate" would like it--but who is the target audience? Women, and this woman says "eeewww!" For a client, the measurement of any ad is did it boost sales? Well?
  • Darius
love it!!! women, u know what to do!!! just mow the lawn. The only thing it's missing is a man's touch, seeing that mowing the lawn is usually a man's job.
  • Kirsten
This was AWESOME!! I especially love the hairless pussy-cat. LMFAO!!!!!
  • New England Puritan
57yrOldwoman: Nope, didn't get the inuendo 'til over 1/2waythru! I don't garden. Ever. Laughed (OUT LOUD!) at the end, and played it again, then shared it with a co-worker (same sex&age) and we both lol'd...THEN we laughed hysterically about this playing in the midwest USA - HAH! Never! Or maybe on an HBO or Showtime best-of show? Too bad, 'coz it's really entertaining.
  • mike
    perfect !
  • "Very Good" This is a Brodway!!!!
  • Adela V;
    shit!
  • bryan
Edgey stuff or fluff ! ?
  • Al
Pathetic. Cringeworthy. Juvenile - grow up ffs
  • JaB
    LOL! Brilliant...
  • peter
isn't it too obvious at the beginning?
  • Don
I must have been half asleep ... until it hit me ... the ad I mean! Excellent
  • Fimran
    wow....m amazed
  • laura marino
    People, lighten up!
It may not be original, but what is ?...and it's funny as hell.
I suspect the ones offended will be those who wish that they had the guts to come up with this idea.
Lucky those Brits that can air these bits without batting an eyelash or mowing a lawn.
    Bless those tulips!
  • M-slice
    I'm with you BOOM!!!

I'm a 40 year old woman and I mow my own lawn! I hedge it, trim it, wax it, powder it...I could go on.

It surely caught my attention and put a smile on my face. Then I watched it again.

I'll buy several. Do they come in different colors?
  • Boom
I'm a 28 year old woman, and I thought it was funny. Nothing wrong with having a sense of humor... we all mow the lawn!! what's the problem???

Cute, simple and fun way of showing the second most common use for a razor. Kinda tired of the usual woman in a bathrobe shaving her legs with a towel on her head.

It got us all talking about it, so it did cause an impression, which in the end is the main idea.

I agree with David L. My favorite line is also "tulips on the mound".

    Common' women!! Lighten up!
  • Peter
    it's fun and embarrassingly awkward.
  • noTxt
meh. hard to get excited but hardly offensive
  • Franko
    Oh dear................
  • wonderfully funny

    - don't agree with you Jason - difference of genres - fringe theatre single bloke vs movie style of camp musical makes it a different idea to my mind
  • Jason
Not at all original. This was much better 5 years ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpEsNrYEssw
  • David L.
My favorite line is "tulips on the mound". The CD either has pictures of the client's "lawn" or he/she must have run this by Legal on a holiday. This makes BK's "Square Butts" look like an ad for All State.
  • It's good. The execution saves it. It's sufficiently fun to distract from it being simple-minded cliche. 20 something girls will love it. The Truman Show look also brands it as theatrical entertainment, not something tawdry. And how complex or sensitive does this message really need to be? They're apparently not trying to grow the category, just take market share by being cuter than the competition.

I propose a sequel with girls asking guys to "Mow the lawn," for them. Or all kinds of guy singing about how they show their girlfriends how caring they are by mowing their girlfriend's "lawn".
  • mike
I think it's funny and I do laugh every time I watch it, but each time I watch I feel it displays an overall lack of creativity. I mean, it would be like Trojan producing a commercial that features a bunch of guys running around in a rain storm searching for rain coats....IM SINGING IN THE RAIN, JUST SINGING IN THE RAIN!!!! WHAT A GLORIOUS FEELING I'M HAPPY AGAIN!....I digress
  • Josephine Carey
Wish we could air this in the US! Funny!
  • JL
Some creative director got his with this one, didn't he? Total lack of creativity.
When you don't have an idea, flash some flesh.
Totally agree with TC and BC and Cake.
  • BC
Sorry guys, but this ad is totally crass. And I'm a guy! Can't imagine how my wife would respond to it.
  • blazer
Quick...don't let TC near the client.
  • TC
That was great! Funny, delivers the message, and memorable! Unfortunately probably would never fly in the US since we have groups that can find fault in absolutely anything and lawyers who seem to have nothing better to do than help those groups drum up reasons to sue someone or try and shut someone down - which is not only a shame, but an embarrassment.
  • Daphne
    what a piece of ....
  • Roger
    ¡Qué mierda!
  • blazer
    Huh?
  • Baby
    This is disgusting.
  • Andy
DDS you just made my day! I guess that means it was an effective ad
  • dds
Beautiful combination of innuendo and euphemism. I may even buy one for my wife!
  • Bruce Dundore
Excellent. Funny. Well done. And Innocent.
  • davo
    wow... That was amazing.
  • mike
I expect the reviews on this one to be mixed. You either love it (women who relate and 99% of men) or you hate it (women who see find the stereotyping offensive and choose not to trim the hedges if you will). Know what I mean?
  • Awesome! I want to work for that creative director.
  • Mr Poop
    Spectacular!
  • Cake
    Classless.
  • Mow That Lawn
    Shut Up!
  • Virgil Killebrew
    Whew!
