Joe McCarthy

CEO

Publicis NY

In September 2008, Joe joined as CEO of the flagship New York office, partnering with Chief Creative Officer Rob Feakins to lead this important office. Since bringing his breadth of experience and leadership to Publicis, Joe has already made an enormously positive impact on the office, as highlighted by a run of new business wins including global Crest, Beck’s Beer and T.G.I. Friday’s.

Joe comes directly from Johnson & Johnson’s Global Marketing Group where, since 2005, he had been Vice President, Worldwide Advertising and Marketing Communications. In that post, McCarthy shook up Johnson & Johnson’s creative and digital agency roster worldwide, bringing in new agency types such as Mother, Taxi, Tribal DDB, and R/GA, joining BBDO, DDB, JWT, Lowe and Deutsch. Joe started his career at Saatchi & Saatchi in New York. He spent 13 years there and quickly rose to manage some of the biggest brands in the business – P&G, Sara Lee, Philips and J&J. He then went to Nike, where he was in charge of Global Advertising. He was instrumental in leading the refresh of the global brand, which resulted in sales more than tripling from $2.5 billion to $7 billion. Then, in 2001, he and his partners formed McCarthy Mambro Bertino (MMB) in Boston, where he was CEO. They did great work for clients like Subway, Sam Adams, Saucony, Jiffy Lube and ESPN. The agency still bears his name. Joe is one of the few marketing communications leaders with perspective and experience on both sides of the business – agency and client.

Joe is on the Board of Directors for VCU Brandcenter, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic, and Rebound Sports
